After completing his studies in translation at the ZHAW Zurich University of Applied Sciences, followed by a master’s degree in specialist translation and translation technologies at the University of Surrey, UK, Philipp
Ursprung (39) spent twelve years working in the language services sector. He specialised in the introduction, management and development of translation technology in major companies, including at Swiss Post and in the internal language service of Credit Suisse, where he assumed a leadership role. He also worked for well-known Swiss language service providers as well as language technology solution providers.
Philipp Ursprung’s new role finds him leading the development and optimisation of Apostroph’s translation technology. He will also be assisting client companies in implementing their translation systems and processes, and advising them on the choice of appropriate machine translation systems. “Our industry is currently experiencing giant leaps in innovation, especially AI translation, i.e. neural machine translation. Keeping up to speed with these technologies is vital in term of leveraging them for the benefit of our clients,” he says.
Thanks to its proprietary, custom technology and neural machine translation solution, Apostroph has the potential to tap into the digitisation opportunities in the sector in a way that creates unique benefits for its clients. Apostroph Group Managing Partner Philipp Meier says this applies to language quality as well as to efficient processes and short lead times. “In our core discipline of technology-enabled language processes, combined with the human expertise of our specialised translation teams, having a proven expert like Philipp Ursprung on board means we are ideally equipped to extend our market lead and pursue our
growth trajectory.”
Alongside his role as Head of Translation Technology, Philipp Ursprung is managing Apostroph’s Zurich office as Head of Operations.
