From floppy disks to AI tools in real time –a career during the digital transformation

Rendezvous with Sabine Waldispühl, Senior Project Manager at Apostroph Luzern

Sabine Waldispühl says she grew up by the loveliest lake in the world – Lake Lucerne, of course. And her office is just around the corner. She started working at Apostroph Luzern a quarter of a century ago. Her career has spanned an ultra-dynamic period and she has seen the way we communicate change beyond belief and at a rapid pace in this time. And yes, Sabine did used to send faxes and save files on floppy disks back in the early days...

Sabine Waldispühl, Senior Project Manager in Lucerne

Sabine, you’ve been working at Apostroph Group for 25 years. Congratulations! Do you still remember your first day here?

I remember it like it was yesterday! We all went for lunch together. I felt right at home from that day on. And I’m still in touch with some of my former colleagues who were at that lunch.

How did you end up working at Apostroph all those years ago?

I have my neighbour to thank for that. She used to be an office manager at Apostroph and always spoke so highly about her job. I thought it sounded like such a great place to work – and I ended up working here myself.

How has your job changed over the years?

I can’t help but smile when I think back to all the printing and filing we used to do back in the day. We’re pretty much a paperless office now – thank goodness for digitalisation! When I started out at Apostroph, the fax machines would be in action all day long. We’d take twice-daily trips to the post office because so many of our projects would arrive by post back then. And we were never far away from a good old floppy disk. To put it in a nutshell, we’ve progressed at pace from analogue, physical, manual ways of working to the digital world of work.

Do you have any fun stories for us after all this time at Apostroph?

We worked with an English proofreader who lived near me. Together we’d perfected a well-oiled system before things went digital. I’d hand over her proofreading assignments to her in person every evening. The next morning, she’d give me all the projects she’d finished so I could take them with me back to the office. That has to be my favourite story from the analogue era.

What do you think about the shift?

Getting the job done is quicker and easier these days. Overall, the world of work moves at a much faster pace.

What do you think have been the key changes at Apostroph?

The in-house developments from our apoLAB have been and continue to be extremely important. They’ve allowed us to keep upping our efficiency in the interests of our teams and our clients. And I also have to mention our AI-based support tools, which we rely on to optimise our linguistic quality.

Which fields do you work in mainly?

I specialise in healthcare and pharmaceuticals. But I also look after advertising agencies and clients in the security sector. So I have my specialist areas but I can also bring in new topics to keep my work varied. That’s the perfect balance for me.

What do you like about the office and your team in Lucerne?

I like our young and dynamic team. I’m always picking up tips from my younger colleagues like recommendations for which AirPods I should buy. And I love our location right at the heart of Lucerne.
